Does It Matter When My Problems Started?

Many people think that all their Problems started from 1 or 2 particular events that occurred to them during the past, they point to them and say that is why I’m the way That I am it isn’t my fault. These events can range from things like rape, molestation, physical abuse, beaten and so on. The people then will manifest anxiety, panic attacks, depression etc and may try to cope with them by utilizing drugs, alcohol or other un-useful behaviors. As a hypnotherapist and doing hypnotherapy with clients this is a crucial thing to realise and understand.

So is it significant when all the issues started at that event during the past? As an example people suffer from depression, anxious, low self esteem, hate self etc and make many lasting choices about them self, when these kind of events occur. As an example they may think they are unlovable, you deserved it, you do not deserve to be happy and so on.

So does it matter? Well No and Yes. The event it self isn’t critical because that event is over and done with, it will never change irrespective of what we do. Even if it did matter we don’t have a time machine to go back in time to fix it! Also let’s accept it the folks that have these Problems are not being abused or hurt in anyway today, that is anther reason why those events don?t matter. The one thing that truly matters about those events is the way in which the person felt at that time and what choices they made.

Let’s be honest we have many memories most we can’t remember like work, the experience of work is fairly bland the same experience often day in day out, so we find it hard to remember what we probably did 2 days back in any detail. While other memories stand out in our memory, we think of them easily and they can have happened 30 years ago but the memory is fresh and feels like it occurred only a week ago. So whats going on with these memories? Well they usually have a lot of emotions attached to them! Either negative or positive and it’s the emotion that keeps it fresh in our memories and keeps us remembering it simply.

So most clients I see have no issue with the memories that are positive, they are actually happy about them however when it comes to the bad ones they do not like them and think of them all the time. This is because the emotion draws there attention like a massive fire on a hill it’s easy to see.

Now the thing is you store all of your emotions in your body, these emotions are attached to memories so when you go back to a memory and think about it you re-experience the emotions you had the 1st time. Every time you go over a memory you actually add a little more of the same feelings to the memory, so in time you can amp up the intensity level of the feelings attached to those memories, adding more and more layers of those feelings.

Also behaviours can be anchored or attached to these emotions also , so when people think about that memory they have that feeling and they then do that behavior what ever it may be. The emotions bind the entire sequence together very firmly! So that memory is not really the issue it’s the way they keep thinking of that memory today and recreating the feelings in side that memory today. Then also doing any of the behaviours caused from this memory today that they’re doing today, in their own head that’s what the most pressing problem it is not what happened 30 years ago.

So if this is true then the event must matter!! Well no it doesn’t truly remember you cannot change the event in any way the trick here is you can change the way you feel about the memory. Imagine if you were going to remove all the negative feelings from that memory or event what would occur? Well typically what occurs is you get your client to go back in to the memory, and they feel absolutely nothing. They haven’t any feelings about the event either way no matter what happened. I have had 1 or 2 experiences where I have treated women who have been raped! And they are absolutely in a mess before they came and saw me then after I have worked with them. Now I ask them to return to the memory or the rape and they burst out laughing! It was a little strange the first time, but an excellent thing! They saw that event in a completely different way, realising that the event had absolutely nothing to do with them, it was not even about them and they felt sorrowful for the guy concerned.

When you do this kind of work then have these results, any behaviours or feelings that folk have today attached to that. Memory they just vanish totally from their life because the feelings were the trigger.

So eventually the answer to the issue is, no the traumatising events don’t matter at all only how you felt when it happened does and what decisions you made at that point is all that matters. When working with clients like this you can also operate content free meaning you don’t need to know what happened all you must know is the way the person felt at that event.
